Can I book a package holiday and stay elsewhere-in other words just use the package holidays for the flights? Some friends and I want to go to a particular part of an island but the only flights we can find on the particular date we plan to fly are part of a package holiday to another side of the island where we do not want to go to. I have checked and we can get cheap accomodation and transfers to the part where we want to go to so our plan is to book the package holiday and then just go to the area where we want to stay , therefore not using the package accomodation. The money is not too much of a problem as all elements are quite cheap. I just need to know that there are no "rules" stopping people from doing this and that we won't have any problems when we want to return home due to not staying at our allocated apartment. Does anyone have experience of how much protection you have from a credit card when booking a package holiday? Obviously the cost needs to be over £100 (and less than £30K!!)...the consumer credit act gives information about purchases, but when it comes to holidays, things are less easy to understand. Most tour operators I'm looking at say that your credit card insurance is usually 'not sufficient' - I'm inclined to think this is so they can sell you their insurance, but are they referring to the statutory protection on your card or additional insurance? Also, if anyone could offer information on common pitfalls with holiday insurance, and catch-you-out exclusions, nasty surprises, etc, I would be much obliged! Is it just me or have package holidays gone up in price? We all expect a little increase in holiday prices every year but today i was checking an old holiday brochure(Budget Travel) and noticed prices have gone up. I went to crete for 1 week in sept 3 years ago for 340euro now the same holiday is 510euro for exact same thing. On their website I also noticed that they are adding the transfer as seperate (the whole point of a package!) so thats 30 euro extra and other taxes etc were also added on. Next they will be charging to use the toilet on the plane. I thought this was soo ridiculous. They whole thing about packages is that it's like all inclusive sorta deal. I couldnt believe it.
