Cheap Exotic Vacations

What kind of environmental effects are caused by staying in a typical Benidorm package holiday hotel?

I'm also interested in social, political and economic effects, attempting to work out the damage (things such as carbon emission being particularly important) to develop a comparison between doing an average sea & sand package holiday, and an "ecotourism" focused holiday in a similar area. Thanks. I'm also interested in social, political and economic effects, attempting to work out the damage (things such as carbon emission being particularly important) to develop a comparison between doing an average sea & sand package holiday, and an "ecotourism" focused holiday in a similar area. Thus, a rough calculation of factors like electricity used by holiday families, heating for the hotel swimming pool etc would be great. Thanks.

  2. That is a tall order for a question. I found an interesting article on a Benidorm stay, which compares it to more adventurous eco-tourism vacations. "Home to high-rise hotels and bus-loads of tourists, Benidorm is not an obvious destination among tourists looking for an eco holiday. But maybe it should be, says Tom Heap, presenter of Radio 4's Costing the Earth." " "Eco" destinations such as Antarctica make no sense, he says. "Why? There's no reason to go. It would be better if you didn't go. We know from around the world where tourism takes off today small time, by tomorrow it's going to be big time." " So I believe the question is how far are you from Spain. If you live in Europe for example, Benidorm would make for a green option. If you live in the United States, whatever benefit you would receive for staying at such an all-inclusive resort would be nullified by the travel to and from it.
